A list of Lithosiinae (Insecta, Lepidoptera: Arctiidae) of
the territory of the former USSR
V.V.Dubatolov, Yu.A.Tshistjakov, J.Viidalepp
Summary: This is the first survey of Lithosiinae fauna of the former USSR territory, which occupied the major part of Palearctic. It includes 67 species of these moths. This paper is the second from the cycle of lists of Heterocera of the former USSR territory.
This article is the second of the cycle dealing with Heterocera fauna
of the former USSR territory. These
investigations are partly supported by the Soros foundation. The first
article of this cycle includes lappet-moths - Lasiocampidae (Dubatolov,
Zolotuhin, 1993). Others will be devoted to Arctiidae, Bombycoidea and
Geometroidea excluding Geometridae. This paper include a subfamily of Arctiinae,
viz. Lithosiinae. The distribution of Lithosiinae throughout the former
USSR territory is inferred mainly from the author's
expeditions and from colections of Zoological Museum, Biological Instutute,
Sib. Dept. of Russian Acad. Sci. (Novosibirsk), Zoological Museum of Russian
Acad. Sci. (St. Petersburg), Institute of Biology and Pedology, Far East.
Dept. of Russian Acad. Sci. (Vladivostok), Zoological Museum, Kiev State
University (Ukraine) and Institute of Zoology and Botany, Est. Acad. Sci.
(Tartu, Estland). The general distribution of species was taken from papers
by E.Strand (1922), F.Daniel (1939, 1951-1954), Fang cheng-lai (1982),
H.Inoue (1982), J. de Freina, T.Witt (1985), and some others. References
to genus names is taken from A.Watson et al. (1980).
